Saving Money on Family Outings

Weather-wise, recent weeks have been wonderful – bar a couple of less-than-stellar days which we just can’t complain about! I’ve loved seeing the sun come out most days; it makes an excuse for late afternoon walks with the children after school and before their bedtime. When Wednesday comes around I begin counting down for weekend and planning our weekend days accordingly; also, bank holidays tend to be days we spend as a family out and about together.

Provident’s “don’t break the bank holiday” campaign recently invited me to take part. Other bloggers participated by providing tips and advice on staying within one’s budget when enjoying bank holidays or weekends – be it going out, cooking fakeaways at home with children, garden play etc. As a family of five that regularly ventures out on bank holidays and weekends we always try and stick within budget, especially after paying our weekly bills which can often leave money tight; yet that does not prevent us from going out and creating memories together as family.

Take a Picnic
My girls absolutely adore packing picnics together. By including them in this process, I place the empty lunch boxes on the kitchen counter and let them choose their favourite flavour of crisps, yoghurt and fruit as well as any additional snacks – my partner and I often pack extra sandwiches, crisps and snacky bits that they may eat throughout the day rather than at just one meal time; we will fill their juice bottles up too; plus keep bottles of water or juice stashed away for spontaneous outings; ultimately saving more than PS20!
